Description of Products & Databases within the ChemKnowledge® System

The ChemKnowledge® System from Thomson Healthcare includes the TOMES Plus System, a computerized library of proprietary and government databases providing rapid, easy-access to chemical, hazard, environmental, and medical information needed for safe management of chemicals. Also included in the ChemKnowledge® System is the REPRORISK System, as well as Dolphin and the Fisher/ACROS MSDS collection.

TOMES Plus System includes: (Also available via CD-ROM with the exception of Fisher/ACROS)

MEDITEXT Medical Managements contains information to assist in evaluating and treating acute exposures to industrial chemicals and reporting adverse health effects and treatment for chemical release exposures.
HAZARDTEXT Hazard Managements provides information needed for the initial response to incidents such as spills, leaks, fires, or explosions involving hazardous materials. Safe handling of industrial chemicals and specific guidelines for evacuation, personal protection, and disposal are discussed. All traditional emergency response sources are referenced, including the American Association of Railroads, National Fire Protection Association, Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA).
INFOTEXT Documents offer general health and safety data on nonchemical-specific topics such as ergonomics and human health risk assessments.
CHRIS - Chemical Hazard Response Information System from the U.S. Coast Guard presents information useful for initial response to aquatic incidents involving hazardous materials. It addresses the properties, isolation, reactivity, and hazard classification of approximately 1,300 chemicals, and discusses evacuation procedures and personal protection recommendations.
1st Medical Response® Protocols offer concise documents describing basic and advanced life support measures for use by emergency and occupational health and safety personnel. The information is especially valuable when developing training programs and establishing first-aid and initial response procedures for workplace accidents. It also covers various life-threatening situations not necessarily related to chemical exposure (e.g., amputation, burns, electrocution, sudden illness, and more).
HSDB - Hazardous Substance Data Bank from the National Library of Medicine addresses the impact of more than 4,500 hazardous chemical substances on health and the environment. Specific data on environmental fate, animal studies, chemical handling and manufacturer is presented.
IRIS - Integrated Risk Information System offers U.S. EPA health risk assessment information used in determining safe levels of human and environmental exposure to chemicals. The effects on human health of chronic and acute exposure to chemicals and carcinogens are detailed, and the regulatory status of more than 450 chemicals is provided. Evaluations of the data are included and assist with comparison of information.
New Jersey Fact Sheets from the New Jersey Department of Health (U.S.) offers employee-oriented exposure risk information useful when addressing worker right-to-know issues and developing training programs. Includes generic, non-technical worker safety and training information, frequently asked questions and answers, and a glossary of terms for more than 700 hazardous substances.
NIOSH Pocket Guide contains critical industrial hygiene data for approximately 675 chemicals with information on exposure limits, U.S. IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life & Health) concentrations, incompatibilities and reactivities, personal protection, and recommendations for respirator selections.
2004 Emergency Response Guidebook (formerly DOT Emergency Response Guides) contains information necessary to identify a substance, isolate and contain it, and evacuate an area in cases of hazardous incidents including fires, spills, and explosions.
OHM/TADS - Oil and Hazardous Materials/Technical Assistance Data System from the U.S. EPA discusses the effects to the environment of petroleum products and other hazardous materials. Specific information on clean-up procedures, aquatic toxicity, storage and handling, and the effects of hydrocarbons on different plants and animals species is included.
RTECS - Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances offers toxicity data on more than 135,000 substances. Extracted from scientific literature worldwide, the information presented includes specifics on mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive hazards, and acute and chronic toxicity of hazardous substances.

REPRORISK® System is the single most comprehensive compilation of reproductive risks information databases available. It helps evaluate reproductive risks of drugs, chemicals and physical & environmental agents on females, males and unborn children. The REPRORISK System includes TERIS, Teratogen Information System; REPROTEXT® Database, Shepard's Catalog of Teratogenic Agents; and REPROTOX System. Available via CD-ROM and the Internet.

Dolphin MSDS Collection provides quick, easy access to a vendor-rich collection of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for thousands of chemicals currently used in the workplace. More the 330,000 MSDS from over 19,050 vendors is presented, with 5,000 new and revised MSDS added each month. Available via CD-ROM and the Internet.

Fisher/ACROS MSDS Collection internationally recognized collection includes 18,000 MSDS for neat chemicals presented in the 16-section ANSI standard format, and can be searched by chemical name, CAS number, and EINECS. Fisher/ACROS MSDS are available in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Available via the Internet.
